NAMA -vs- TheStory.ie – The Story

NAMA -vs- TheStory.ie – The Story: "This week will see the culmination of more than three years of work on the part of TheStory.ie to try and obtain information from the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) and Anglo Irish Bank (now the defunct IBRC) through a legal process called an Access to Information on the Environment request (AIE). Those of you who have been following this saga since 2010 will be familiar with the arguments at play but for those who have not this is the story so far.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments on Friday May 31, about whether a stay should be granted or refused on the judgment of the High Court that NAMA is a public authority, pending an appeal to the Supreme Court. We are asking the court not to grant a stay, NAMA are asking for a stay."?

More than just stimulating minds | Prevention Action: "Evidence-based programs that attempt to reduce achievement gaps between disadvantaged children and their better-off counterparts in the early years are effective, but their impact is, at best, modest. The director of Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child argues that new interventions should shift their focus – from just stimulating the minds of these children to also protecting their brains."?

The cost of private schools - Letters | The Irish Times - Thu, Apr 18, 2013

The cost of private schools - Letters | The Irish Times - Thu, Apr 18, 2013: "Sir, – The argument that parents are taxpayers and deserve the support of the State towards the private education of their children is fallacious. In the past few years, more than 90 per cent of the top 10 feeder schools to both Trinity and UCD, our highest-ranked universities by international measures, have been in the “fee-paying” category. These schools, comprising 1.3 per cent of the national total, accounted for 16 per cent of first-year entrants. This is State-sponsored elitism. – Yours, etc,
