If his response had even partially approached this standard, I am convinced that most, if not all, of the succeeding events would never have taken place. There was little appetite on the part of the State’s political or investigative authorities to take the steps necessary to combat it effectively or to sanction those involved.

Image: Vindicating Socio-Economic Rights: International Standards and Comparative Experiences (Routledge Research in Human Rights Law): Paul O'Connell: This study, drawing on comparative experiences in a number of jurisdictions which have addressed (in some cases more explicitly than others) the issue of socio-economic rights, seeks to counter this argument by showing that courts can play a substantial role in the vindication of socio-economic rights, while still respecting the relative institutional prerogatives of the elected branches of government. Drawing lessons from experiences in South Africa, India, Canada and Ireland, this study seeks to articulate a "model adjudicative framework" for the protection of socio-economic rights. In this context the overarching concern is to find some role for the courts in vindicating socio-economic rights, while also recognising the importance of the separation of powers and the primary role that the elected branches of government must play in protecting and vindicating such rights. The text incorporates discussion of the likely impact and significance of the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and looks at the implications of the Mazibuko decision for the development of South Africa’s socio-economic rights jurisprudence.?HOW MANY KIDS FROM A DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUND COULD HAVE BEEN SENT TO COLLEGE FOR THIRD LEVEL EDUCATION AND MORE WITH WHAT THE MAHON TRIBUNAL COST?HOW MANY CHILDREN WHO DIED IN STATE CARE,COULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN BETTER CARE WITH THE MONEY THE MAHON TRIBUNAL COST?

My Statement Regarding Greg Smith's Goldman Resignation - Thoughts - Nomi Prins
My Statement Regarding Greg Smith's Goldman Resignation - Thoughts - Nomi Prins: Today, I have received dozens of media requests and hundreds of emails regarding former Goldman Sachs executive, Greg Smith's gutsy, and internationally resonating, public resignation.
I applaud Smith's decision to bring the nature of Goldman's profit-making strategies to the forefront of the global population's discourse, as so many others have been doing through books, investigative journalism, and the Occupy movements over the past decade since my book, Other People's Money, was written after I resigned from Goldman. It would be great if Smith's illuminations would serve as the turning point around which serious examination and re-regulation of the banking system framework would transpire.?

Right now, the Obama administration is waging a devastating war against whistleblowers. Sources I've spent years cultivating now fear they could face prosecution for revealing details about governmental waste, fraud and even potential war crimes.
Over the past several months, I've been told by several sources that there is no upside for them to speak with me - the risks they face are simply too great. Just last year, the Army accused a reservist of leaking classified information to me and took steps to bar him from reenlistment, because he dared to speak out about the torture he witnessed at Guantanamo.
