Bulletin: Would you like a fair trial for yours... causes.com: When Dominque Strauss-Kahn was accused of rape in New York City, the French press screamed about the unfair treatment he received from the American media and how he was denied his ability to be innocent till proved guilty in a fair court of law. Being considered innocent is something our justice system touts and what we present as a standard to the rest of the world.. Our justice system is not to be discretionary and all people are to have a fair opportunity to defend themselves in a fair court of law. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and was never the case with Paul Cortez., Justice costs an obscene amount of money and Paul Cortez could not pay the fee. Fortunately for DSK, he had the resources to be represented by incredibly competent and connected lawyers and had many powerful people demanding justice. We saw a similar situation when the Duke players were falsely accused of rape. The outcome for those players would probably have been differen t had those young men not had the resources and the backing of a prestigious community. There are many examples of being "tried by the media" and convicted in "the court of public opinion:?
